Description
Duplex 1920's 14X12 Marching Snare Drum, 8 Single-Tension Lugs, American Eagle and Calf Heads. PATENT 83-87-97.This drum has a Patent date of 1883, but I was told it was manufactured in 1928. There is one crack in the lower wood rim, next to the butt plate. Otherwise, I found no cracks or noticeable damage on the wood rims. Please review photos closely. This is exactly what you get. The finish is beautiful. Both heads are original calf hand-wrapped heads.
This snare drum was made by Duplex Manufacturing Co. in St. Louis, Missouri. It has a stained wood shell with skin heads. The hoops are made of wood and it has 8 single-tension rods. The snares are original antique gut wire.
The badge around the vent hole is cast.
This drum was made by: THE DUPLEX MFG. CO.
There are four United States patents associated with this drum:
U.S. Patent #83-87-97 – “New and Improved Tension-Rod for Drum Heads,” Emile Boulanger, April 3, 1883
U.S. Patent #371415 – “Drum,” Emile Boulanger, October 11, 1887
U.S. Patent #578198 – “Drum Construction,” Emile Boulanger, March 2, 1897
The drum will be well packed with plenty of bubble wrap and shipped in a stout cardboard box.
Before shipping on all my drum sales, I untighten all lugs, so the heads are loose. This helps with any expansion or contraction during shipping.
