Slingerland 40s Radio King 1-Ply Maple Shell 7x14 Snare Drum Solid Black Duco.Up for your consideration & buying pleasure is an awesome 1940s Aluminum
‘War Time’—Cloud Badge, “New Super Krupa” Slingerland “Radio King“ Snare Drum.
No extra holes or modifications.
A very desirable Slingerland Model, this early RK has the New Super Krupa - “Clam Shell” strainer with Slingerland RK Extended Snare Wires.
This snare has a Solid Black Duco patina.
There is wear in the Black Lacquer Painted finish associated with playing and age.
This finish has been touched up and repainted in certain areas of this shell.
Some collectors refer to this snare as the “Clam Shell”. The 40s Slingerland’s Catalog describes this snare as the New “Super Krupa Model.”
This snare has the 7x14” Solid 1-Ply Maple Shell with the renown Super Krupa - “Clam Shell” strainer design, Extended Snare wires.
However, the first “Krupa” model Radio King cataloged, technically had the 3-point strainer,
8-Streamlined lugs and was
6.5 x14“. The later “Hollywood Ace Model” was 7x14” equipped with
16-small beaver-tail lugs.
Slingerland also added a “Buddy Rich,” Center lug model with
8-center lugs, simple butt plate. And later a 16-Lug model, simple butt plate to their Catalog.
This RK Snare Drum is Sporting the original Art Deco 40s Aluminum “War Time” Badge. A Nice Tight original factory installed grommet.
In addition, this R.K.snare is in very good condition and mostly original with newer Evans & Aquarian plastic drum heads. A very nice thick solid Maple shell & heads go on fine.
The Vintage finish has that Older Worn Patina Finish that “Slingerland” made with their Duco Lacquer Processing.
This Black finish has the old school Nitrocellulose Lacquer with a great antique pattern, very vibrant. Also, this finish is aged to a flat or semi-flat coloration & condition. There are some imperfections from wear & usage.
The Seam is very tight and solid. This Black Finish has a nice old school coloration.
Overall, the hardware is all original.
These Duco finishes are very hard to find without issues in such decent condition.
If you have been searching for a matching RK snare for your Black Duco 30s-40s Slingerland Kit, or just an added Classic Snare, this drum would be a great choice.
The shell construction is the desirable,
1-Ply, Solid Maple Shell with Solid Maple reinforcing hoops. A very thick Solid Shell, that is beautiful inside.
Many Radio Kings where made with the 3-Ply shell.
This drum is equipped with the full flanged Nickel Over Brass rims.
A very nice “in round” solid Maple shell, as heads go on decently.
The highly desirable Art Deco Engraving
“Slingerland Radio King” is stamped on the top rim. The bottom rim is a full flanged 4 Rivet design with a rectanglesnare gate opening.
All remaining hardware is Nickel Plated as well.
The 16-Small Beaver-tail Lugs are Crafted in Art Deco design and fashion. All lugs are in good working condition. There are very few scratches, but No cracks or major fatigue.
Again, the throw-off is the Clam Shell Strainer that works and functions beautifully with original throw Handle.
The dual purple factory muffler functions flawlessly.
Original Slingerland 20 strand snare wires are installed.
This Drum has that great Radio King sound, wonderful dynamic response, with great warm sensitivity & tonality, cutting through all band instruments.
